Welshpool - Trallwng

Welshpool is situated on the English border and The River Severn, very close to Offa's Dyke. The Shropshire Canal also runs through the town. The town is also at one end of a narrow gauge railway, The Welshpool and Llanfair which runs through rolling hills along the Banwy Valley towards the station at Llanfair Caereinion. The scenery is stunning, especially in the autumn when the myriad colours of the leaves would rival New England. A rural, farming area and a must for lovers of history and the countryside. Just south of the town is Powis Castle which was originally built by Welsh Princes. Now the large house, with an Italian/French feel has stunning gardens which look down to the River Severn and on upwards to the hills beyond. The fabulous interior and the furnishings are every bit as inspiring as the exterior. For this "Well Worth a Visit" site contact them on 01938 557018. There is an entrance charge and year round attractions also.

Below, just one of the many "Little Trains of Wales" which operate on countless lines throughout the country. This one, part of The Welshpool & Llanfair Railway is leaving the station at Welshpool for the journey through the picturesque Banwy Valley.
