Here is just a small selection of what is on offer to the visitor and resident alike.
Starting with a walk north up St. Mary Street, the first arcade on the right is The Wyndham Arcade. On further, past the Brains Brewery and The Royal Arcade and The Morgan Arcade and David Morgan department store, cross Womanby Street then past Howells department store. Next is the entrance to The Market before passing Quay Street and The Millennium Stadium on the left and Church Street to the right. As Cardiff Castle faces you High Street Arcade is on your right and over the road to your left, The Castle Arcade. At the junction turn right into Duke Street and with the castle on the left you will see Duke Street Arcade on the right. Shortly Working Street will be to the right with Kingsway to the left, continue forward to Queen Street. In the 1960's this was a busy road full of traffic but now pedestrianised with shops, arcades and street entertainers it is just as busy but with people not cars and trucks.
The first item in Queen Street is a statue to Aneurin Bevan the founder of the health service in the U.K. Shops, banks, building societies, fast food outlets on either side as you move forward with the new Queens Arcade to your right and The Friary to the left followed by Dominions Arcade. A little further and The St. David's Centre on the right preceeds Andrews Arcade to the left. Charles Street, Marks and Spencer and Churchill Way follow quickly on your right with Park Place tucked into the middle on the left. Finally, The Capitol Centre, once a theatre visited by many stars, is on the right before the junction with Newport Road and Station Terrace.
Many other side streets offer shops of all descriptions and all can be reached by foot - explore, there is a lot to see. The new cafe area is just one example, situated at the "other" end of the first arcade on the list, The Wyndham.
